I also moved here from the coast where I have been eating Sushi at some of the best Sushi Bars in LA and Santa Barbara. While I don't think Ichiban compares to the best on the coast they are FAR better than the other choice in our Tehachapi in my opinion.

More variety needed

Lived in Japan. Miss some simple, not-too expensive but classic Japanese dishes like gyudon, katsudon, o-yakudon. With additions like these to the menu, there would be not only more of a selection but also some decent meals in between appetizer prices and the expensive dinner prices.

Best Sushi In Town - Glad It Opened

5 STARS!!! Easily the better of the two sushi bars in Tehachapi. Its clean, friendly, open normal business hours, and economically priced. The other sushi place in town was overpriced. I am so happy that Ichiban made its way to Tehachapi. I have gone there at least once a week since its opening and will continue to visit. The fish is fresh, the rolls are nice, and the staff is super friendly. Did I mention it was actually fair priced? Thank you!

LOVE IT

We moved from the L.A. area and loved everything about Tehachapi, but knew we would miss our favorite sushi bar. Then along came Ichiban and we could not be more pleased. It is fresh, price is good and the staff is GREAT! We go at least once a week. We tried the other in town and it was exactly what we thought small town sushi would be like and were so relieved when Ichiban opened their doors. Keep up the good work.

I love Ichiban!

The sushi here is excellent. It is much better and cheaper than Kasagiri, whose rice sometimes tastes like it came out of the fridge. Me and two of my friends can stuff ourselves full of sushi for 30 dollars! And the people are so nice and cute. Ichiban indeed! In my opinion, anyone giving negative reviews probably doesn't like/understand sushi in the first place.

I give this place 4 out of 5 because of the flavor of the rolls and the atmosphere. If they offered an all you can eat menu or even did a happy hour on sushi without the rolls I would give it a 5.

Good enough to be the best in town

The quality of the fish and the flavor of the rolls are enough to make this your only real choice for #1 spot in town. The tiger roll and the 911 roll are amazing. The cost is a little bit high if you are use to all you can eat but still better then the other place in town. I go in there often with friends all the time and the staff are very friendly and service is great. The Sushi chefs are all very nice and fun to talk to. They always make us something special when we go in too. Try sitting at the sushi bar order the creamy double, have a saki bomb with the chefs and tell me this isn't the best place in town for sushi

Came here with someone else to have lunch & it was nothing I expected! Nothing on there sushi list sound good! Who in the there living mind puts mango in a sushi roll? The things I had order were awful & I will never be going back to this place again!

Tasted good

I had stopped going to kasagiris for two reasons:

1) rice was always off and it made the presentation and taste kind or well mediocre.

2) Too expensive for to barebones sushi, sure it's in tehachapi so it impresses the locals but really I don't like dropping my money on lackluster rolls especially for that price.

Now on to ichiban, it was average the rice was done better, the presentation was an improvement, the portion size was good. But like kasagiris its too expensive for the price of eating with myself and a friend just a roll a piece, two beers, the uninspired mochi ice cream its like almost 80 dollars.

I could drive to palmdale to big tuna and get all the rolls and sashimi I want for cheaper... now I didn't check to see if they had an all you can eat option but knowing most tehachapi food businesses there wont be any effortichiban made on ichibans part to differentiate themselves from their kasagiri competition. But at least there are two sushi joints to choose from which is a good thing because competition will give us better food I believe in the long run... oh and I think that the other reviewer is from kasagiri seeing as there is no.explanation
